Big Box VS Local Pool Store

Let’s say you’re having an algae issue with your pool and you’re trying to treat it. You have two options- go to your local pool store or go to a big box store to purchase your chemicals. You decide to go to a big box store because you think you’ll save a few dollars, but are you really saving any money? Are you getting the biggest bang for your buck?

Big box stores typically order their products in bulk, meaning they’ve been sitting on shelves possibly for months, getting stale. They also tend to bring in chemicals with low active ingredients, which means you’ll be adding more of the same product to get any results.Difference in Shock Chart

We actually tested this theory… we went and purchased a case of shock at a local big box store. The shock was made of dichlor, which is very high in cyanuric acid, and only had an active chlorine of 40%. We compared that to our shock, calcium hypochlorite, and found that ours has an active chlorine at 60%, for only a few cents more.

When you bring your business to a local pool store, you’ll notice just how different it is. Most pool stores offer professional water testing and a wide range of chemicals to choose from. At Hydra, it is our passion to help you achieve a beautiful pool/hot tub. We offer free water testing and our experts are trained to help you with any situations. Not all chlorine is the same and it is very important to make sure you know what you are adding to the water.
