The Windy City & A Greco-Roman Inspired Spa

In the Chicago neighborhood of River West, a former factory building from the 19th century will reopen this fall as a bath house complex with cold plunge pools, hot tubs, and spa treatment rooms. It is a 20,000 square foot project and the largest one to date for the company Aire Ancient Baths, a Spanish company known for taking historic buildings and building Greco-Roman spas while still keeping some characteristics of the building.

Stationed on the corner of Chicago Avenue and Halsted Street, this spa is the end product after two years of renovation and the second one of its kind in America built by Aire. The company said they preserved the original brickwork and timber structure, so along with the ancient design it will also retain some aspects of the former structure.

You Know No thing Jon Snow…About Hot Tubs

It is described as looking like something “straight from Game of Thrones,” by Alina Dizik of Crain’s. However, one need not fear being stabbed to death while enjoying the experience. It is scheduled to open later this month and it is to be the second location in America, the first being in New York in an old Tribeca textile factory from the 1880s.

Patrons to the spa will get to enjoy the variety of pools, including saltwater, warm pools, plunge pools, and indoor/outdoor pools. For a fee of seventy dollars, one can enjoy 90 minutes of access to the pools. There are also many spa treatments, such as the Himalayan salt treatment which includes an hour long hot stone massage and a Himalayan salt wrap. Here is a place to relax away from the bustle of the city without the potential for murder.
