How to Choose the Right Above Ground Pool for Your Yard

At Hydra Hot Tubs & Pools, our owners and installers have been installing above ground pools for over 25 years. With that experience, we’ve gathered a few helpful tips to consider when choosing the right pool for your yard:

1. Pass on the salt system
While saltwater systems feel great on the skin and offer a convenient way to sanitize your pool, they can cause problems for above ground pools. Salt is highly corrosive to metal and will eventually damage the structure of your pool.

2. Be cautious of “deep ends” or “dished-out” bottoms
Hydra replaces hundreds of liners every year, and many customers ask us to fill in deepened areas. Most say it’s because dished-out bottoms make it harder to play games like volleyball and create slippery, unsafe slopes.

3. Don’t deck over the top rail
Eventually, your liner will need to be replaced. Pools that are fully decked in are much harder to service, often requiring extensive woodworking. To avoid complications, always build decks below the screws on the top cap. We also recommend opting for a half deck instead of a full wraparound.
