Winterizing Your Above Ground Pool Using The Frog Leap Hibernation Kit

 

Note: We do not recommend closing your pool until the temperature of the water is consistently at 60 degrees or lower. 

Note: The Frog Leap Hibernation Kit is a 3-step system designed to make winterizing your pool easy.

 

  1. Thoroughly clean the pool and balance your water chemistry. total alkalinity, pH, and calcium hardness. 
  2. Insert Frog Leap Depth Charge into the center of the Anti-Bac Mineral Pac. Place the cap back onto the Infuzer and turn to setting 10. 
  3. Turn on the pump and allow 1 hour for the product to disperse into the pool. If chemicals still remain after 1 hour, allow an additional 30 minutes. 
  4. Remove Frog Leap Depth Charge and discard. Allow circulation for at least 15 minutes before adding any other Frog Leap products. 
  5. Add Frog Leap Reveille after 15 minutes to establish a chlorine level in the pool. 
  6. Test the water to ensure pH is between 7.2-7.8 and the chlorine level is no more than 4 ppm. 
  7. Insert Frog Leap All-Out into the center of the Anti-Bac Mineral Pac, pushing down to puncture the seal. Turn control dial to setting 10. 
  8. Run the pump for 90 minutes allowing the Frog Leap All-Out to disperse into the water. Remove after time is up. If the water in the Infuzer has a blue tint, run for one more minute. 
  9. Drain the water until it’s below the return jet. Do NOT drain the pool completely.
    • Tip on draining the pool: attach the vacuum hose to the return and the water will drain out away from the pool.
  10. Disconnect and drain all your hoses and allow them to dry out before storing them. Remove all plugs for the drain points and pump housings. You may choose to store these plugs in your pump’s strainer pot. The pump can be stored indoors for best protection, but it’s not necessary.
  11. Set your filter to “Winterize” if leaving your filter outside for the winter. Don’t forget to clean and put away any accessories, such as your ladder. Do not leave these in the pool all winter. If you have wedding cake steps, this is a great time to give them a thorough cleaning. For best results, leave these out of the water for the winter.
  12. Place a pool float or a pool pillow in the center of your pool and cover the pool, following the directions that came with your particular winter cover. The height of the pool pillow in the center will allow water to drain to the sides, making it easier to siphon it off after rain.
  13. Keep your cover clean. Don’t forget about your pool during the winter. Regularly remove water  and debris from the cover.
