How to Keep Your Pool Clear During Pollen Season
Spring is here ー and so is pollen. If your pool suddenly looks yellow, dusty, or cloudy, you’re not alone. Pollen can quickly build up in your water, clog your filter, and throw off your water chemistry.
The good news? A few simple steps can keep your pool clean and swim-ready all season long.
Stay on Top of Cleaning
Pollen sits on the surface and eventually sinks or sticks to the wall, making your pool look dirty fast.
- Skim the surface of the water and empty baskets daily.
- Brush walls and steps to prevent buildup.
- Vacuum regularly to remove settled pollen.
Consistent cleaning keeps pollen from overwhelming your system.
Pro Tip: Use enzymes and clarifier for extra protection. Enzymes break down organic debris, while clarifier clump small particles together so your filter can remove them. Together, they keep water clear and your system working smoothly.
Keep Your Filter Running
Your filter is your best defense during pollen season.
- Run your pump 24 hours a day.
- Backwash and rinse your filters more frequently.
- Check the skimmer and pump baskets to make sure they don’t get clogged.
A properly running filter helps remove pollen before it becomes a bigger issue.
Maintain Proper Water Balance
Pollen can impact your pool’s water chemistry, making it easier for cloudiness to develop and algae to grow.
- Maintain balanced alkalinity.
- Keep pH between 7.2-7.8.
- Maintain proper chlorine levels.
- Shock the pool if the water starts to look cloudy or hazy.
Balanced water = clearer water, even with lots of pollen.
