Which Hose do I Need for My Sand Filter?

If you purchased one of our above ground pools, you know that keeping everything running smoothly is important. One of the key parts of your pool system is the pump-to-filter hose. Using the right hose for your pump and filter system is essential to ensure that water flows properly and your filter works efficiently, but also depends on the brand of filter and its size. Here’s a simple guide to help you pick the right hose for your pool system.

👉Important to Consider: These hoses are expensive; however, you have the option to hard-plumb in place of the hose.  It is a more affordable option, and PVC can be purchased at your local hardware store.

Pentair Sand Dollar Sand Filter

For many years, we used the Pentair Sand Dollar filters. They come in two sizes, depending on the size of your pool, and each needs its own hose.

  • SD40 Sand Filter Hose (30”): The hose is 30” long and includes two 1 ½” unions and an O-ring to keep it tightly sealed.
  • SD60 Sand Filter Hose (35”): This hose is 35” long and comes with two 1 ½” unions and an O-ring.

Polaris Sand Filter  (Note: If you purchased this system from us, we chose to use hard plumbing vs using this particular hose.)

A few years ago, we switched to the Polaris system. If you need a hose for one of these, here’s the one you need:

  • Polaris Sand Filter Hose (29”): This hose is 29” long and fits the Polaris pump system. It also comes with two unions for a secure connection.

Hayward Sand Filter

Hayward is the brand we used this year. It also has two different filter models, depending on the size of your pool. This particular sand filter uses reinforced tubing, attached with clamps.

  • Hayward 18” Sand Filter Hose (31”): This hose is 31” long and clear, with clamps to keep it in place.
  • Hayward 21” Sand Filter Hose (35”): This hose is 35” and uses clamps to ensure everything stays tight and secure.

Waterway Carefree Sand Filter

Many of you may have a Waterway Carefree sand filter, if you purchased in the past few years.  It uses a particular hose that has an elbow fitting on one end, attached with unions.

  • Waterway 19” Sand Filter Hose (32”): This hose is 32” long and has two 2” unions and an elbow.
  • Waterway 21” Sand Filter Hose Hose (35”): This 35” hose comes with two 2” unions and an elbow.
